Forum Buzz
By Sean Broestl

12/30/2001 Edition

Welcome back to another week of Forum Buzz, forum flame fans! It's been a while since I've been able to produce a column, and I do need to apologize for it. After Thanksgiving got over, I was in a paper writing hell trying to finish this semester of school, and when that was finished, I was completely burned out on writing for a while. I've been pretty bad at even replying to my email! Thankfully, that's over for now. I've taken a short vacation, and caught up on my video game playing and anime watching. I think some of that forum moderator cynicism may have even started to go away! (yeah right ;) )

Top buzzes

ADV rep reported in vicinity of AoD Forums!

Over the past week (*cough* the last week I was able to look at the forums), DLW was extremely active on the forums posting release dates and updates on various projects. It's obvious that he doesn't have enough to work on if he has time to post on the forums, he definitely needs to have some more DVD9s to work on...

Anyway, to summarize all the announcements dlw made this week:

Volume 2 of Soul Hunter: All the Queen's Men will street on 2/12/02. 4 eps for $29.98. [ Original Thread ]
Those Who Hunt Elves : Elf Stripping for Fun and Profit: 2/12/2002. 6 eps for $29.98 [ Original Thread ]
Dirty Pair Flash: Random Angels: 2/26/02. 5 eps for $29.98. [ Original Thread ]
Nadia: Nadia's Island: 03/12/2002. 4 eps for $29.98 [ Original Thread ]
Evangelion vol 1 remaster details [ Original Post ]
Back Catalog Update. Devil Hunter Yohko, Miyuki-chan in Wonderland, Kimera, Super Atragon, Airbats, more! [ Original Post ]

Good Deal on a (relatively) unknown show

A thread this week that had gone mostly unnoticed is about Gokudo, Swordsman Extraordinaire. Supposed to be a pretty good show for those of you who enjoyed Slayers. It also happens to be on sale this week at The Right Stuf, so if you're interested, now is a good time to pick it up. Just browsing through the weekly specials, you can also find Maho Tsukai Tai #3 and Saber Marionette J Again for a good price, if those shows are more your flavor. [ Original Thread ]

Some recommendations for you...

Since I got back into reading the forums this week, I've noticed a number of threads asking for recommendations on titles (yeah, yeah, I know it's not any different from normal). My recommendation is that before you go asking for recommendations in the general forum that you read the reviews and look at the "AoD Recommends" section. It's so much easier, and you don't have to wait for replies!

Am I really watching this?

Macross is finally out, and otaku couldn't be happier. There's some feedback and questions regarding the set of course. The initial impressions of the set are good, though there are some threads worth reading in order to understand the way a few things were done. I would recommend reading this thread. Of note is Shin Kurokawa's reply regarding some audio blanking and crackling that has been observed in some episodes. You may also want to take a look at this thread as well, which has some details about the audio track.

Steel Angel Kurumi dub cast

ADV is playing the guessing game again on the Steel Angel Kurumi cast, and thanks to forum regular Nork, we've got a list of the cast so far: [ Original Thread ]

>Kurumi - Kelli Cousins
>Nakahito - Kira
>Dr. Ayanokoji - Charles Kennedy
>Amagi - Shelly Calene-Black
>The General - John Swasey
>Walski - Andy McAvin
>Kamihito - David Matranga
>Brandow - Todd Waite
>Saki - Monica Rial
>Kichijoji - Chritine Auten
>Koganei - Emily Carter
>Karinka - Hilary Haag

Celebrity Chat, though not with us

For those of you who don't read The English Track forum, you'd miss out on hearing about neat moderated chats with voice actor Brett Weaver. It isn't being run by us this time, but I'm sure a few of you are interested. What would you have done if there wasn't a regular column like mine to keep you informed of such things? Details on the chat can be found in this thread

Quotes!

Because I know you all love the quotes, and I haven't posted a column in weeks, I've got two quotes for you this time:

"Ya know, just because you're not paying attention doesn't mean ADV is doing bad work." -Androvsky [ Original Thread ]

"Dark? I was blinded by the glare off her ass!" -ShinjiTheCoward [ Original Thread ]

Since I can't think of anything else witty for the moment and I want to get this posted, I think I'll just give it up

Have a Happy New Year, and keep posting!
