Check out the reviews/info
section for my less than glowing review of Harmageddon.
NEWS: 07/30/98
Gall Force: Eternal Story now has a full review up in the reviews/info
section. Check it out! Most DVD places will have it available as of 08/05.
NEWS: 07/27/98
Firm confirmation: Ken Cranes, Animenation and Animeplus has the two Image
titles. Rumored confirmation is that Sight & Sound will have Darkstalkers as
of Wednesday. Digital Eyes had it listed as well, but they said it has been
delayed. But, word from J-pop.com is that it will be streeting this week.
Check your favorite retailer and see what's up. If anyone snags a copy, let me
know.
We've also got a new quizlet below... give it a whirl!
NEWS: 07/26/98
Many thanks to Kevin Cook who has given me plenty of information regarding the
release of the Image titles. As reported by him, there are two previews in the
DVD Sneak Peeks that haven't been announced yet: A Wind Called Amnesia, a very
well done film, as well as my wife's favorite movie, Demon City Shinjuku. No
idea on when they'll be announced, but I'm very pleased by the commitment by
CPM to DVD. Once again, they lead the way!
I must also point out that the forum is now being used a little more, and
would encourage everyone to stop in and say hello and join the chatter. One
recent comment that seems to reflect the state of things was "AD Vision
seems to be the Fox of the anime community". I think that sums it up
nicely.
If anyone from the studios actually checks into this page, if you have certain
numbers that must be achieved before committing more titles, I'd be more than
happy to set up pre-order petitions for those titles on disc. I'm sure we can
accommodate you nicely. :)
I've also gotten interest from someone on doing up our mascot character. Once
she's up and on the page, I'll be doing my first contest - an Image/CPM DVD of
your choice upon release (exception being Lodoss). Keep an eye out!
NEWS: 07/25/98
Worlds of conflicting news. Strange as it may seem, most normal DVD
distributors online do NOT have Gall Force of Harmageddon listed as available.
Yet, a lot of anime places do. I've gotten several first hand accounts from
people who have seen them at Animenation
and Animeplus, and
Ken Cranes has the actual box covers on
their site (nice looking I might add, similar to the Republic cases). It also
looks like there's some undisclosed goodies on these two discs... check out
the Reviews/Info link on the left to see them! I've got my copies on order
with Ken Cranes (as well as the last two El-Hazard TV laserdiscs) and will
review the DVD's as soon as they arrive.
NEWS: 07/24/98
7PM - As mentioned below, there are several people saying those two titles are
out. Word from one reader is that Ken Cranes does NOT have these titles in
stock, and have yet to receive any copies. Someone's a little lazy in updating
their titles. Hmph.
I spent some time on the phone today with some very, and I mean very, pleasant
people at MGM studios. After some bouncing around between offices, I ended up
learning that MGM does indeed hold the rights to Akira, but
apparently that's only for about another year. So what does that mean? Yup,
petition time. I'm working with Peter Bracke from the DVD File to get more
information from MGM about who we should be sending letters to, as well as the
petition list. So sign it up folks, lets see if we can get this baby out
there, or at least get them to license it to Criterion for us.
6AM - Hot news! Both Animenation and
Ken Cranes are listing Gall Force and
Harmageddon in stock! Snag 'em! I'll see what I can find during the day and do
some follow-ups when I get out of work tonight. If you manage to get them
early, post in the forum!
NEWS: 07/19/98
Well, after much work, I've updated all the petitions. There are about 300
individual people, with around 96 added today total. If you do not see your
name there, odds are you did not provide either the shows you wanted OR your
real name. Real names are the only ones that make it onto the petitions.
NEWS: 07/18/98
Hey gang! Just a quick update for all of you. I first want to thank everyone
for bearing with me and this site... I know the changes can be annoying, but
this is the first real html work I've done, so it's all learn as I go! There
may be a few style modifications coming up soon, so as to give us a little
more personality. Speaking of which, if you're interested in coming up with an
anime DVD mascot (seeing as how I lack ANY artistic ability), I'm taking
submissions! Fan art is also a plus, as I get it, I'll add it in!
I swear, I'll work on the petitions REAL soon. Since it's all manual, there's
a bunch of work ahead of me.
I've also added in my bio,
since it's been requested by a bunch of people (ya wackos!).
Can anyone confirm that the Darkstalkers disc will be delayed to early August?
I've heard rumblings, but nothing official.... here's hoping for the 7/28
street date as promised.
NEWS: 07/14/98
New disc coming from (cough) Image and CPM,
Ayane's High Kick. Check it
out.
Also, unconfirmed, but apparently the
Bubblegum Crisis Suite may
also be facing a delay to mid-August. I think it's time to open a few new
pressing plants guys....
NEWS: 07/12/98
I've seen several places that have stated that Pioneer
will be bringing Fushigi Yuugi to DVD as near to day and date with the VHS as
possible. Is there any sort of press release or official notice of this
anywhere? If you know of it, please
send it to me or direct me to it. In the meantime, those of you unfamiliar
with this show should check out
Fushigi Yuugi World
to learn more of this great 57(?) episode series.
Call me a drooling fanboy, but I love the cover to the new
Bubblegum Crisis DVD Suite. I
didn't know that M2K had it on their site in the press release until loyal
reader Patrick Cate pointed it out to me. Thanks for making my Sunday night
peachy!
I've also updated the links page some, adding in some very cool sites from
readers of this page. Check 'em out!
Big times coming up for anime in the near future! Pioneer has acquired the
Fushigi Yuugi series, which is one of the hottest properties out there at the
moment. No immediate word on a DVD release of this TV series, but check out
this link from the Anime Expo
on July 4th about their Laserdisc and DVD plans...
Also getting an update this Sunday will be the links page, though I have to
make special note of this one right now.
If you want to help contribute to getting more anime on DVD, this is an
excellent designed place for it to happen.

NEWS: 07/03/98
Four new announcements are now up from Image... and it's a mixed bag. On the
good side, the first (and best) of the series, Project A-Ko is coming in
subbed/dubbed format. On the eerie side, Streamline is creeping onto DVD.
Three releases from them, and two are English only. Makes me cringe already.
